Section 12
Punishment

12.1 If an employee of the National Archives who is responsible for the preservation of records, sees, moves or gives a copy of the prohibited records as per section 9 to anyone other than the designated person, such employee shall be punished with a fine of up to five thousand rupees or imprisonment for up to three years or both. will be 12.2 If an employee of the National Archives, who is responsible for the safekeeping of records, in violation of sub-section 11.1 tampers with, defaces or destroys the records, such employee shall be punished with a fine of up to five thousand rupees or imprisonment for a term of up to two years or both. 12.3 If anyone other than an employee of the National Archives who is responsible for keeping the records safe, tampers with, defaces or destroys the records in violation of sub-section 11.2, he shall be punished with a fine of up to three thousand rupees or imprisonment for a term of up to one year or both. 12.4 Except as stated in sub-sections 12.1, 12.2 and 12.3, if anyone does anything contrary to this Act or the rules made under this Act, he shall be fined up to five thousand rupees.
